Cat Game Rejected :(

August 25, 2011

Sadly, it appears Cat Game was REJECTED by the app review board on account of the following reason:

2.12: Apps that are not very useful, are simply web sites bundled as apps, or do not provide any lasting entertainment value may be rejected

I am appalled, and the following appeal was sent to the ARB representing the most I have written since my last GE. Justice will be served!

“I am sad to see Cat Game rejected by the app review board though I was prepared for such a response and hope this appeal will change the review board’s mind. I insist that Cat Game does in fact have lasting entertainment value for those who pursue it. IT is because of this reason, that we did put considerable amount of time porting it from the PC and Android platform to iOs so hat it can be enjoyed by a broader audience.

It is true that most first time experiences with Cat Game result is failure and often times users will not progress beyond this point but the same is true fro most other games with the primary difference being that other games will feature copious amounts of blood or explosions to indicate failure whereas ours cuts to an obnoxiously long video of a poorly drawn cat playing a keyboard which I suspect more than the gameplay itself is the reason for this apps rejection. This I insist is intentional and for players who persist past this point will be rewarded substantially. Games are about discovering 1. what to do, 2. how to do it, 3. doing it, and we become too familiar with games who skip the first step and hence losing a huge opportunity for “discovery” in this area. Cat Game is intended to be slow paced and obscure so that players will feel more rewarded at each of the three steps outlined above and after testing this out of several friends, we are convinced it is in fact successful in this regard. Again it is not the surface functionality of the app that is designed to provide entertainment, but the actual process of discovering this functionality which may be challenging.

The rather poorly done graphic design in the game is intentional as it is intended as a parody of the internet mem keyboard cat and we hope fans of the original will appreciate this sense of humor.

We sincerely hope the App Review Board will reconsider rejection of this app. It may come across as a poorly made troll app but hope that the review board will see it for its inherent value.”

We are working on the iOs release :) . PC version available at anboplu.robotbear.org
